In virtually all regions of the world, non-native organisms are establishing, with many of these species having serious impacts on local economies and ecosystems. Forests are particularly affected by biological invasions that sometimes transform community composition and adversely affect forest ecosystem services. Organisms affecting forests include insects, tree pathogens, plants, fish, mammals and other taxa. Most invasions are a result of the increasing interconnectedness of global commerce and travel.
This conference will address the causes, consequences, and management of biological invasions in forests. This is an important area of research that focuses both on the ecology of invasions, as well as improving our understanding of invasion pathways and biosecurity programs that seek to mitigate damages. During the conference, scientists will be provided a venue to exchange information on current investigations as well as to develop new collaborative international research programs.
The conference will be held on the campus of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and is hosted by the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Science. It will consist of two and a half days of scientific presentations as well as a 1-day field trip to view the forest environment surrounding Prague and learn about local problems associated with non-native species in forests.
All are welcome to attend and/or present. Membership in IUFRO is not necessary for attendance.
